Then Again: The Anthology - David Sanborn

David Sanborn

06 August 2012

A five-time Grammy winner, sought-after session contributor, and internationally famous solo star who has sold over 6 million albums worldwide, David Sanborn is also well-known for his stints as a sideman over the years with such prestigious names as David Bowie, James Brown, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, as well as Gil Evans, Mose Allison, Jaco Pastorius, John McLaughlin, and Maynard Ferguson.

This is the first comprehensive two-disc collection that spans 20 years of David’s career at both Warner Bros. and Elektra Records. David has been very involved in the release and handpicked the songs himself. The anthology features David’s biggest songs, including ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Missing You’. Also included is ‘The Dream’, and this year signals the 25th anniversary of the song. Liner notes by US author/ journalist David Ritz.

"A comprehensive overview of one of the most influential sax players of all time.  Because it covers many different styles, it's an extremely enjoyable listen - it's Sanborn's sexy horn playing that holds is all together."  Icon Fetch

"To hear him in so many different settings as on these two discs is something else again.  Such technique and a wonderful sound make this an essential addition to any aspiring sax players library."  Bebop Spoken Here

"Sanborn picked those tracks himself.  In fact, he's compiled and sequenced the whole album and the included essay / conversation with David Ritz means that the collection is about as definitive as you'd ever get."  SoulandJazzandFunk

"Utterly accessible, declamatory heart-on-sleeve playing and the flawless, impeccable arrangements in which it is set like a precious jewel."  London Jazz

"Never underestimates Sanborn, it's wise to say, and this well-put together 2-CD set provides plenty of reasons for such caution."  Marlbank
