The Winter In Lisbon

Dizzy Gillespie

16 August 2004

Recorded in 1990 as the soundtrack of The Winter in Lisbon, a film in which Gillespie played one of the main characters, (that of a famous jazz musician), this album includes arrangements by saxophonist Slide Hampton, along with fantastic compositions and interpretation. Here, Dizzy combines jazzistic audacity and reserve in the great jazz tradition with the cinema of New Wave times – in 1958 Dizzy composed and recorded the major part of the original soundtrack of the film Les Tricheurs.

The programme includes the world-famous song ‘Magic Summer’.
