“On the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the festival de Cannes pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe, selected as the icon of the 2012 festival. Fifty years after her death, Marilyn is still a major figure in world cinema, an eternal icon, whose grace, mystery and power of seduction remain resolutely contemporary”.

Marilyn Monroe is the effigy of the Cannes Festival this year. The silver screen icon also had a remarkable voice, as she once said: “I won’t be satisfied until people want to hear me sing without looking at me”.
"Not so much a singer as an actress who sang, this collection comes as we mark the 50th anniversary of Marilyn's death. Her voice is sexy yet sweet on songs such as I Want To Be Loved By You from Some Like It Hot and Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and pretty funny on the likes of My Heart Belongs To Daddy and That Old Black Magic from Bus Stop, where she played an out-of-tune showgirl. But it's a good voice and you can't help smiling as you listen." Daily Express ****
"Marilyn once said that she wouldn't be happy until people listened to her as a singer without looking at her face. Well, she certainly had a good voice and knew how to use it as these 16 tracks from various movies as diverse as River Of No Return, Bus Stop and the classic Some Like It Hot demonstrate. Best from a jazzer's point of view are Fine Romance and Old Black Magic. Mostly though, the Hollywood orchestras swing and so does Marilyn. I couldn't see the point of including Happy Birthday Mr. President but then, with reference to the last frame of Some Like It Hot, 'nobody's perfect'". Jazz Journal ***
