This epic, one of the most dramatic and spectacular films ever made, took seven months of shooting, a hundred thousand extras, camels from Australia, lotuses harvested in British Guinea, and more…

For the soundtrack, Elmer Bernstein composed very melodic and rhythmic themes for a symphonic orchestra. For the main themes, he used the technique of the leitmotif, as well as many Egyptian instruments: the tiple (small guitar), cymbals and systrum (sacred drums) and Hebrew instruments: shofar (ram’s horn’s ritual), and xylophone. On several occasions, the film features musicians in the background. For this music, Bernstein used the harp, flute, sitar and tiple.
