One of the most significant saxophonists in jazz to emerge since the ‘60s, Charles Lloyd’s musical career spans across four decades. His concerts have earned him international fames, and his recordings are legendary.
In early 1966 saxophonist Charles Lloyd gathered around him some of the most adventurous musicians of his generation: pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee (replaced by Ron McLure the following year) and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Hailed by Billboard as ‘the first psychedelic jazz group’, the Charles Lloyd Quartet were one of the most popular jazz outfits of the late 1960s.
The Atlantic label was where he made the recordings that led him to mainstream consciousness.
This two-CD set includes selections from landmark albums like Dream Weaver, Soundtrack, and Forest Flower, with the best of his live and studio work, recorded for the label between 1966 and 1969.
Compiled and featuring liner notes by jazz writer and Jazzwise editor Jon Newey.
