Come On Up

Brian Culbertson

14 July 2003

Celebrated multi-instrumentalist and composer Brian Culbertson returns with his seventh solo effort, Come On Up.

More R&B-influenced than his previous efforts, Come On Up features Marcus Miller and (David Sanborn and Luther Vandross), and Stephen Lu (Brandy) in production duties, as well as label mate saxophonist Steve Cole, and guest artists including vocalist Ricky Peterson, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s string section.

Setting the tone for Come On Up, the bass/keyboard-driven  ‘Intro’ folds quite energetically into ‘Say What?’ – which is already in the top 10 US smooth jazz chart) featuring Steve Cole on saxophone and background vocals by Ricky Peterson, and enhanced by an Earth Wind & Fire-flavoured horn section.  The album also includes an inspired cover of the Earth Wind & Fire hit ‘Serpentine Fire’, and spotlights soulful vocals by R&B crooner Rahsaan Patterson on ‘Fly High’, and the sultry sound of trumpeter Rick Braun on ‘Late Night’.
