My instrument is the orchestra, said composer and arranger Chico OFarril many times. The author of Latin jazz classics like the Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite I, and Descarga No. 2 (included on this CD), first made a name for himself writing music for the likes of Benny Goodman (Undercurrent Blues), Stan Kenton and Machito. As a conductor he made many successful recordings throughout the 50s, and in the 60s he wrote arrangements for Count Basie, Cal Tjader and Clark Terry. Recorded in Havana 1957.
