Belo Horizonte

03 May 2004

After some 12 albums for the CBS labels, John McLaughlin moved to Warner Bros. for 1981’s Belo Horizonte.  Although its title implies a Brazilian theme, this album is the first of what might be described as McLaughlin’s “French albums”.  Belo Horizonte and its follow-up, 1983’s Music Spoken Here, were both recorded in Paris and essentially feature the same rhythm section: Katia Labeque and Francois Couturier on keyboards, Jean Paul Celea on bass, and Tommy Campbell on drums.
