Created in 1967, The Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna originally had a line-up of 25 jazz musicians, but by the beginning of the '70s they were accompanying vocalists like Elena Burke, Omara Portuondo, Moraima Secada and Ela Calvo, who achieved some of their greatest successes at the time, as well as Afro-Cuban singer Merceditas Valdes, and local star Rosita Fornes. Younger songstresses such as Beatriz Marquez y Nereida Naranjo also made their first recordings with them. This record not only shows the versatility of the brilliant musicians of the OCMM, but also brings together nine of the most important performers in Cuban music.
