Muntu Valdo to release olympic single

World music star Muntu Valdo is releasing a new single in celebration of the 2012 London Olympic Games.  '5 circles of humanity', inspired by the competition's enduring rings, will be available to download from 16th July.

Based in London, Muntu is a Sawa from the coast of Cameroon in West Africa.  He delivers his unique ‘Sawa Blues’ solo with just guitar and harmonica, using live technology to underpin his powerful melodies conjuring up multi-layered loops and mysterious sound textures by means of a constantly expanding armada of pedals at his feet.

He has toured all over the world, from Paris to Douala, Womad UK to Mexico, London Jazz Festival to Singapore and back.  He has played alongside some of the biggest names of African music new and old, such as Staff Benda Bilili, Ali Farka Toure, Keziah Jones, Tony Allen, Richard Bona and Manu Dibango, and has forged exciting new collaborations with the likes of cult folk visionary Alasdair Roberts and Damon Albarn’s Africa Express.

‘5 Circles Of Humanity’ was written especially for the London Olympics and features Muntu with the Maria Fidelis School Gospel Choir.  Muntu will be performing this song for the first time at the BT River Of Music Festival on 22nd July
