Julian Rachlin raises 80,000 with a Tsunami Benefit in Vienna

Julian Rachlin's sold-out Tsunami Benefit concert in the Musikverein's Goldener Saal in Vienna on 28th January raised a staggering 80,000 for the appeal. With his friends Mischa Maisky, Evgeny Kissin, Itamar Golan and Thomas Quasthoff, they performed a late-night chamber concert to a packed hall. The concert sold out within a few days of going on sale with every inch of standing room and stage seating occupied. The event was given the official support of the President of Austria Dr. Heinz Fischer and the proceeds went, in their entirety, to a specific project run by SOS-Kinderdorf, to rebuild a school and a medical centre in a fishing village in Sri Lanka completely destroyed by the tsunami.
