Jose Serebrier nominated for two Latin Grammys
The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has announced the nominees for the sixth Latin Grammy Awards, scheduled for 3rd November 2005 at Los Angeles's Shrine Auditorium. The awards, an offshoot of the 47-year-old Grammy Awards, include classical and jazz categories as well as prizes for pop music of various styles and nationalities.
The nominees for best classical album include two Warner Classics recordings: Glazunov's Symphony No. 5 and
The Seasons recorded by Uruguayan-born conductor José Serebrier and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and guitarist Sharon Isbin's recording of concertos by Rodrigo, Villa Lobos, and Ponce with the New York Philharmonic, also conducted by Serebrier, a former Grammy winner himself.
Serebrier's recording of Glazunov Symphony No. 5 was also nominated in the main Grammy Awards earlier this year in the
Best Orchestral Performance and
Best Engineered Album, Classical categories.
A new recording, Glazunov's Symphony No. 8 and
Raymonda, with the RSNO and Serebrier will be released in September 2005 and has already been praised by Rob Cowan in
