Great reviews for Daniel Hope's new Shostakovich disc

Daniel Hope's new CD, Shostakovich Violin Concertos 1 and 2 plus the Romance from The Gadfly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Maxim Shostakovich, has already been receiving praise from the highest places. On Friday 10th, it received a 4-star review in The Times (London). Geoff Brown describes 'Hope’s superb technique and fire, brilliantly sustained over long spans, and the fine balance between soloist and orchestra (not something achieved in [Sarah] Chang’s rollercoaster ride with Simon Rattle)... Hope’s passion and intelligence are stamped all over this disc — a real pleasure to hear.' The full review can be found at timesonline.co.uk. On Saturday 11th March, BBC Radio 3's CD Review programme played Daniel Hope's recording of the third movement of Shostakovich's second violin concerto. The presenter, Andrew McGregor, said, 'I really enjoy Hope’s approach: conversational, questing, and never afraid to get his hands dirty in the grittier parts of the score'.
