Endellion Quartet completes Beethoven String Quartet & Quintet cycle
Celebrating a 30th and an 800th anniversary
The Endellion Quartet
have given a cycle of all the Beethoven quartets at Wigmore Hall and many other venues and just after the completion of their 25th Anniversary year they began, in January 2005, to record the Beethoven cycle for Warner Classics in time for their 30th anniversary in 2008-2009 when they will also be helping to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge at concerts in Cambridge, the Wigmore Hall, around the UK and in other countries - full details to follow...
This major project involves a total of ten CDs covering all the String Quartets, String Quintets and a number of rarely heard quartet and quintet fragments and has been generously supported by The Stradivari Trust (UK reg 1106652).
UK release is scheduled for September 2008.
Apart from the quartet fragments, of particular interest will be the inclusion of the complete early version of string quartet Op.18 no.1 as well as Beethoven's own arrangement for string quartet of his piano sonata in E major Op.14 no.1.
The quartet texts used in these performances have been meticulously prepared by the notable Beethoven scholar and editor Jonathan Del Mar, in collaboration with the Endellion String Quartet. These texts are gradually being published by Barenreiter, and include numerous striking restorations of Beethoven’s original notes, rhythms, harmonies, slurrings, articulations and other markings, using meticulous researched, newly available sources.
